Family of Jason Jolkowski keeps hopes up

One year after the disappearance of an Omaha man, his family still waits, hoping to hear any news.

Thursday was the one year anniversary of the disappearance of Jason Jolkowski. His family hopes someone will come forward and help answer the question of what happened. "Nothing struck us as the right thing to do other than a quiet day of contemplation and still keep our hopes that we will find out what happened to our son," said Jason’s mother Kelly.

The details are baffling. The 19-year-old was to walk a few blocks and catch a ride to work with a friend. Jason vanished June 13, 2001 and hasn’t been heard from since. "Just the other day we were at the store and I saw a can of soup he liked a lot and it almost made me cry, soup," said dad Jim. "So you have your strong moments and your not so strong times, definitely."

Even after a year the Jolkowski's still see signs of support. Businesses who are willing to post Jason's picture. Complete strangers who say they're praying for the family. All of that really helps, but so would some information.

The Jolkowski’s have a web site, www.missingjason.com. They work on it and on a plan to create a missing person’s clearing-house in Nebraska. Part of it to stay busy, part of it is for therapy.

Jason’s car still sits in the driveway, waiting in case he comes home or until the Jolkowski’s get some closure. "There's a big hole in my heart that can't be undone by any other resolution than him coming home or finding out what happened."

Omaha police say there are no new leads in the case. Anyone with information about Jason’s disappearance is urged to call 444-7867. You can remain anonymous.
